Who We Are
SALT, an acronym that stands for Service and Love Together, is a youth and young adult ministry organization with the mission of sharing Christ's love by serving the unsheltered through comprehensive mobile outreach centers.
What We Do
Services Offered to Unsheltered Guests Through SALT Mobile Outreach Centers: Showers, Clothing, Snacks, Charging Stations, Mail Services, Laundry, Phone Use, Hygiene Products, Haircuts, Case Management, Mental Health Counseling, and Bible Studies / Spiritual Care Support.
From August 2020 through March 2022 SALT Outreach has been involved in helping to End Homelessness for 1,050 different people (368 moved to housing and 682 diverted to housing).
There is a direct correlation between frequency of visits with SALT Outreach and percentage of people who are moved into housing. The more frequently someone visits SALT Outreach the more likely they were moved into housing.
These programs were all created based on the needs expressed by our unsheltered friends. Surveys, focus groups, and informal discussions were done to pinpoint the exact needs. As we continue to partner with the community, we believe that together we can help to end homelessness in Florida and beyond. To learn more about SALT Outreach, click here!
Volunteering FAQs:
Volunteerism is an essential component to our organization, so thank you for tapping into the work we do and helping us to serve our neighbors experiencing homelessness, a homebound community. Each day is split up into a morning (8:30am-12:00pm) and afternoon (1:00pm-4:30pm) shift. Before your volunteering begins, our outreach staff will guide your team through our processes of operations as well as provide a tour of our site, with some history of SALT's roots and mission of our mobile drop-in centers. While you're here, we encourage honest conversations with anyone stopping by for services. With the stigma of homelessness, many folks may be used to being disregarded or treated less than. Active listening goes a long way in cultivating our community of care. Likewise, being unhoused can be a traumatizing experience and each person is impacted by this in various ways and levels. We ask that you respect our guests' privacy and keep any photography limited, especially if it is revealing someone's face. While volunteering, a team member will always be near to answer any questions or provide any assistance you may need.
Where should I park?
Once you enter the campus, you may park at any available parking spot. Since parking on-site is limited, we encourage carpooling if you are attending with a group. If you are volunteering with a group and need further assistance with parking, please reach out to: volunteer@saltoutreach.org
Where should I go to sign in after I park?
SALT operates on a campus shared with Powerhouse Church. To check in for your volunteer shift please go to the SALT building, located towards the back of the campus and let any SALT staff know you are there to volunteer.
